Is Online Hypnotherapy Effective?
During the Covid period, online hypnotherapy was the primary mode to conduct hypnotherapy sessions. This was when people realized that the online mode does actually work, enabling many to receive the therapy they needed during those years.
I was based in New Zealand then (2020 to 2022), and conducted my sessions online as well. Online hypnotherapy has since become an indispensable mode to engage and facilitate sessions for both my local and overseas clients.

From experience, online hypnotherapy sessions:
- Are as effective as in-person sessions with the right setup - you are comfortable, undisturbed, and can communicate clearly with the therapist
- No travelling is required
- Receive therapy in the comfort of your chosen space
Setup for Online Session:
A note that as our voices naturally soften under hypnosis, the right setup is important so that the therapist can still hear you clearly to avoid repeating the instructions and questions which may be disruptive to the process.
With the above optimal setup, it is not difficult to enter into a deep hypnotic state, as the therapist’s voice is in your ears with minimal external disruptions. The outcomes are as effective as an in-person session, and some clients do actually prefer this mode.
Of course, when you have an in-person session, the additional in-person connection and interaction with the therapist is something that the online setup cannot replace.
The choice between in-person and online hypnotherapy really boils down to your personal preference, cost consideration, and the therapy mode available and convenient for you.

- Be in a separate room, undistracted by family members or pets
- Be able to recline or lie down in a comfortable position (on a bed, reclining chair or sofa)
- Reliable internet connection
- Laptop, tablet, or cell phone with a camera - position so that the upper half of your body is visible (with a stand if needed)
- Headset (headphone with inbuilt microphone) - to hear the instructions clearly, and for the therapist to hear you clearly as well (there may be lags with wireless Bluetooth devices, so a wired headset is still preferred)
- Anything else to make you comfortable (pillow, blanket, fan or air-conditioning)
