What is the basis for and purpose of Past Life Regression Therapy?
The underlying assumption for Past Life Regression Therapy is that each of us is a soul, in other words, a spiritual being. Each soul reincarnates through multiple lifetimes, each lifetime with a different physical body and varying set of life circumstances, so as to grow and evolve in maturity, wisdom and other aspects.
We are experiencing our present life, and we have multiple past lives creating certain spiritual effects for our present life circumstances. Our collective higher purpose as souls on Earth is to experience life here, and to continually expand the scope of our experiences via connections and interactions with one another, growing and evolving through all our experiences.
And individually, each of us have our own higher purpose, to complete learning spiritual lessons we did not pass fully previously in one or more past lives, and to commence learning spiritual lessons we have not learnt yet. Spiritual lessons refer to the lesson themes of, for example, acceptance (learning to let go of circumstances we cannot control), forgiveness of others or oneself, tolerance, patience, compassion, empathy, trust, faith and others, manifested via the different circumstances we experience here on Earth.
In every life, we are given challenges through relationships and circumstances to learn different spiritual lessons, and if we did not pass certain lessons in that past life/lives fully, then emotional, mental and karmic residues generated by causative events in that past life/lives may then be brought into this present life. Clearing these residues, and learning about the underlying lesson themes, so we can grow and evolve through the process, are what Past Life Regression Therapy aims to work on.
This process is achieved by utilizing hypnosis to enable you to go beyond the conscious mind to access the subconscious and superconscious mind to gain insights into causative events in your past life/lives resulting in present life issues, and then to work through them with specific therapeutic techniques during the regression sessions. The outcomes are to resolve your issues, receive spiritual guidance on your life lessons, so as to move forward in your present with more peace, clarity, and acceptance, and to make clearer and wiser choices in your future.
What is the evidence for past lives and Past Life Regression Therapy? Why should I choose this mode of therapy?
Our past lives are veiled to us for a reason. If we can remember all our past lives, then likely we will spend each new life chasing the past, and will not be able to experience this present life fully. But we can lift the veil if we have a good reason and right intention, like overcoming limiting beliefs (for example, "I am never good enough") and emotional blocks that are inhibiting our spiritual growth.
My role as a Past Life Regression therapist is not to convince you that you need Past Life Regression Therapy, because Past Life Regression Therapy is truly just one of many therapy tools out there, and it is not for everyone. If you are interested in Past Life Regression Therapy, your affinity for this niche area is also for a reason, just like mine. My role is to first assess if the spiritual framework underlying Past Life Regression Therapy resonates with you and is a good possible fit for you to achieve meaningful outcomes to aid your spiritual learning and growth. It is indeed a very powerful modality to achieve breakthroughs and soul evolution when the factors for consideration are in alignment, including a good match between the client and therapist.
Working as a team (client and therapist), we seek guidance to allow you to live this life as fully and purposely as your soul had intended it to be. Because with the right intention, you will be allowed to receive enough information during the Past Life Regression Therapy sessions to enable you to make progress. This is evident because during a session, the therapist may ask several questions concerning your spiritual path, and you may receive the answer of “not yet” if the timing is not ripe for you to receive certain answers. This is because you will need to have certain life experiences or meet certain people before being able to grasp the lessons. This is also why if I were to give you the same Past Life Regression Therapy session at different learning stages of your life, you will receive deeper layers of answers when you are at the more evolved stage of your development.
However, as healing and learning is a continual process, beyond the sessions, you must translate the learnings and insights into intentions and actions in your daily life to fully benefit from the whole process.
Do I have to believe in past lives to benefit from Past Life Regression Therapy?
The theoretical answer is no. Having said that, there will certainly be less resistance and more natural acceptance from your conscious mind if your personal belief in past lives, reincarnation and karma form part of your life framework, though we must still set the right intention for the sessions to be effective and fruitful as mentioned. If you do not believe in past lives, you can still benefit from Past Life Regression Therapy if you are open-minded, and are able to receive Past Life Regression Therapy from the premise that whatever your subconscious and superconscious mind provide are metaphorical stories of meaning and purpose, and through these stories, you get to experience the emotions and lessons of the main character in the story. This experiential process, conducted under hypnosis, allows you to integrate the lessons and insights in a way that conscious analyzing and rationalizing can never achieve. Otherwise, there will be questioning and doubt from the conscious mind regarding the whole process, and in these cases, Past Life Regression Therapy will not work for these individuals, and is not recommended.
Is everything just my imagination?
Imagination, creativity, wisdom and so much more lie beyond our conscious minds, within our subconscious and possibly superconscious mind, and it is through these functions that our modern world with its advances and technology are born and still evolving. During the therapy session, we utilize hypnosis to let the conscious mind take a backseat so it functions just as the witness, reporter and allows the subject to interact with the therapist and remember the process. The subconscious and superconscious mind advances so we can engage with it through setting clear intentions and asking focused questions, for us to access the inner and spiritual wisdom we all have within us. The answers you receive comes from a place of knowing, not analyzing and rationalizing, and it is clear to both the subject and therapist.
Therefore, if you were to ask me, right after the session, is the life I have experienced in the therapy session one of my true past lives? I will tell you the answer is - it does not matter. Most of the stories that arise are events or lives that are hard to verify historically, although I do have clients who have experienced past lives that were amazingly verifiable. The aim of the therapy is not to verify a particular past life you have had, but that through this process of experiencing the significant events in that life (verifiable or not) and the emotions, then gaining the understandings, insights, and spiritual guidance, to allow you to the integrate what you have learnt during the session into a more evolved and purposeful life perspective.
Is regression to present life relevant? Why can’t I just directly enter a past life and get the outcomes I need?
Regression therapy simply means using hypnosis to help us regress to earlier memories and events. Age Regression is when one regresses to earlier memories in this life, and past life regression is regression to events in past lives. We are living in this life, and the issues we face arises from situations, challenges, experiences and relationships we have in this life. A surprising find for many who undergo regression therapy is that, we may think we consciously know what our issues are, for example, difficult relationships, a block in career path, or lack of confidence or self-worth; but what is revealed during a good age regression session often points to actual root causes and deeper underlying lesson themes, and this revelation is something that conscious analyzing and rationalizing cannot accomplish. This is achieved in Session 1 of the Past Life Regression Therapy described in my therapy Format section. And the actual root causes, for example the lack of confidence or self-worth actually arises from a lack of inner purpose, will guide us to bridge to the relevant past life/lives, that we can then work through in Session 2 (and 3 if needed), to see the significant events in that life, the death scene, and then the life review to understand the spiritual lessons of that past life and how it connects to this present life, and also learn the actions one can take to move forward purposefully in your present life.
Why do you format your therapy in sessions? Why can’t everything be done in 1 session?
Many single session Past Life Regression Therapy techniques requires the subject to be hypnotized for 3 to 4 hours, and focuses solely on the past life. As mentioned, we must first gain a clear understanding of this life before we can access the relevant past life or lives with the right intention and purpose. I had received Past Life Regression Therapy from therapists using these techniques, and I have been trained in one as well. Through these experiences, I come to the realization that 3 to 4 hours under hypnosis is simply not an optimal duration for maintaining a focused state of concentration, furthermore without exploration of current life circumstances, results are often limited.
It is not about just undergoing Past Life Regression to learn about one’s possible past lives, but to access our past lives with a therapeutic aim, and this is the difference between Past Life Regression sessions and Past Life Regression Therapy sessions.
Most of my clients are surprised by how mentally tired they feel even after just a 60 to 90 minutes hypnotic segment, and this is also evidence that one is engaging and working with, and through, something beyond your conscious mind. Hence, it is not fruitful to be under hypnosis for a prolonged period in which it becomes harder and harder to maintain the focused state, especially when we require the most concentration and energy to receive learnings and insights towards the end of the past life exploration. By the end of Session 1, you would have a much better understanding of the actual themes of your present life issues, and the 1-week gap between sessions allows you time to rest, reflect, consolidate and integrate, so that by Session 2 and 3 if needed, you would have built up good momentum for successful entry into causative past life events, ready to receive spiritual guidance, and resolve the issues you face.
I am interested and drawn to Past Life Regression Therapy for some reason, but am afraid of what I might find out. Is the process scary?
To be truthful, the whole therapy process, if done with the right intention, conducted with a thorough pre-talk on the process, using an effective technique, by a certified therapist whom you trust and have good rapport with, is nothing short of fascinating, illuminating, and sometimes literally mind-blowing when you receive spiritual guidance way beyond what both our conscious minds can conceive.
Our subconscious mind also has a protective barrier, and we do not experience anything we are not ready to experience or receive. For example, if the past life death scene is a traumatic one, like being stabbed, the subject may automatically view the scene as the 3rd person, if it is not necessary to experience it as the 1st person.
I have also heard of the term Spirit Guide, and I am not sure what that means. Can you explain?
Another concept that may be new or even mystifying to some is the idea of a spirit guide. Spirit guides are spiritual beings who have stopped incarnating as they have gained certain levels of wisdom and seniority that allow them to function as guides to less mature souls who are still incarnating (namely you, me and the rest of us on Earth). Each soul has one or the most two guides who are wise, loving, and whose role is to guide the soul through its multiple incarnations, including through each death process, facilitating re-entry back to the spiritual realm, conducting each life review with the soul and providing other forms of guidance within the between lives realm (the spiritual realm where the soul resides in and between incarnations - this aspect is explored further in Between Lives Regression Therapy). Spirit guides are helpful to guide us during the therapy process when we request for their guidance with the right intention. Importantly, they provide the appropriate amount of guidance for each stage of the soul’s growth, and do not interfere with the soul’s free will. During the Past Life Regression Therapy sessions, we will always request for your guide’s presence. As the client, you may or may not sense your guide during the first session, but by the 2nd session, especially during the life review after the death scene, many clients do connect with their spirit guide, and it can be a powerful experience. And moving forward, having made that connection, it will be easier to engage with your guide be it in your meditation or further therapy sessions.
