Ekphrastic 01: The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh

An ekphrastic poem on Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night, seen from a different slant.

The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh (1889). Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.

A pointy tree
A pointed roof
Set against swirling strokes.

A crescent moon bundled up
Pinpoint stars coiled within
A night sky where a gust of wind
Seems to be engulfing anything close to it.

Perhaps the tree and roof are trying to prick it
So the circling wind doesn’t destroy
The very strokes that created it.

The famous painting seen through my quirky lens.

Now, looking at the painting again, what does it evoke in you?
